UP

Robotics Project - exchange semester

Lund University - Sweden

KÖK 112 is a robotic fire extinguisher for the kitchen. It is meant to prevent/extinguish a cooking fire. The device activates an alarm when sensing an excess of smoke in the cooking area (range), but if fire is set on, the extinguisher will be triggered, putting out the fire before it can expand.

The product development process is described below.

Empathize

After the first piece of analysis and research I chose I field that I have some experience in and where it was shown robotics could be useful, firefighting. This activity is dangerous, requires experience, special training and equipment to handle it correctly and could benefit hugely from a robot.

Here the second part of the research started. From a visit to the fire station to a bunch of statistics, my development was leaning towards residential fires. Statistics showed it is most common that residential fires get started in the kitchen (over the range), so my analysis was narrowed down to this area.

People get scared and don‘t know how to react to an ongoing fire

People get harmed while trying to put out a fire

Define

After the robotics and fire research and going through analysis the conclusion driven was the following:

The main goal was to design a device that would help avoid injuries and material damages caused by kitchen fires

ideate

Once the problem is refined, through all the data research, gathering, observation and collection, we started the concept proposal that were adaptable to the problem we wanted to solve.
